In the past year, our new executive board has been hard at work to strategise and plan the way forward for Ukea. The process involved workshops, consultations, discussions, questionnaires and polls conducted with a cross-section of our members. The result of this is a new Ukea Strategic Plan 2009-2011. This will be unveiled during the AGM alongside the launch of a new look Ukea, complete with Logo, T-shirts and most importantly new initiatives in terms of content and activities for the coming three years.
Results
Some results of the on-going work is already visible in our new-look and interactive website with lots of features and more up-to-date information. A draft copy of the Strategic Plan will be made available for down-load here so that you can acquaint yourself with it ahead of the meeting. Some of the Key highlights in the Strategic plan include:
- Empowering the Kenyan diaspora through facilitating capacity-building workshops, training and seminars.
- Empowering women and enhancing their socio economic capacities by creating a vibrant Ukea Women’s Club.
- Strengthening the role of Ukea in development and governance (human rights) projects and programmes in Kenya through forging stronger partnerships with main Dutch development partners.
- Enhancing the business potential of the Kenyan diaspora through the creation of Ukea Business Club and forging linkages with Dutch partners.
Programme
We hope that you will be there to give your input, critique and comments before we adopt the Strategic Plan 2009-2011 as the guiding document for our association in the coming years. A tentative programme for the day is available here.
Elections
Additionally, we will have elections to fill some new and other vacant positions within Ukea executive board. We also envisage the creating of a small but effective advisory board to be drawn from both the Kenyan and Dutch professional community with a strong affinity with Kenya to advise the executive on a number of key issues in our strategic Plan.
Make your voice and vote count
We therefore invite all our members and friends of Kenya with a passion and commitment to community organizing (as Barrack Obama started out) and a vision to empower and increase the visibility of the Kenyan diaspora to step out and take part. Ukea strives to be a democratic and all-inclusive association for all Kenyans in the Netherlands, so make your voice and vote count!
